Tips for using you bins
Brown bins
The small kitchen caddy is for use in the kitchen to collect food scraps for the brown bin. You can line your brown bin only with ordinary paper, e.g. old newspapers or special paper liners never plastic. The lid of the kitchen waste bin must be locked shut for collection - make sure the lid in securely in place and push the handle forward to lock the lid down. Try to store your bin out of direct sunlight and keep it locked shut to avoid flies and vermin.
Black Boxes
If you are putting out lots of recycable things try to separate them out into untied carrier bags. You can leave extra bags next to the box.
Wheelies
Wheelie bins are difficult to replace, make sure your house and flat number are marked clearly on yours. Never leave your wheelie out for long after the collection in case it blocks the pavement and causes an accident. Only the contents of the bin will be collected, never leave black bags out or you may risk a fine. If you have too much unrecyclable rubbish for your wheelie bin you will need to use the Council’s service for larger household items.
Garden waste
If you need to dispose of grass cuttings or other garden waste you will need to purchase a green bin from the Council. The cost is £21, and the collection charge £29 a year (55p a week).
Larger Household Items
Bristol City Council will collect up to three items (e.g. 3 black bags) at a charge of £15. All additional items will be charged at the same rate. To arrange a bulky waste collection from your household please contact our Customer Service Centre on 0117 9223838. Payment for this service can be made by credit/debit card or invoice.
